I loveeeee this movie. And this scene I knew would be perfect for me to analyze and review.
In this we focused on two parts, the camera work and the audio. The camera work of this scene helps the audience focus on the specific part of the scene. For example it goes from focusing on the girls that are in a car together and seem to be having fun jamming out to their music and then goes to focusing on the one girl in the car that seems to be a little less up beat.
Listening to the audio part you can hear what each of the cars are listening to and how different the are. The first car is listening to very upbeat music whereas the other car is listening to music that is more rebellious I guess you could say.
When you take both of these parts together you get the full understanding of what is happening in the scene. You get the sense of how the first car is judging the girl in the other car for the music she is listening to.

I used Tiktok to create this assignment. And not to sound sarcastic but it is very simple to use just click the “create” red-ish colored button at the center bottom of your screen and start recording. Then upload or save it to your drafts. When you save it to your drafts you can go back and continue recording more or edit the video to your liking.
I thought this would be perfect to do considering I knew I had a travel day coming up and thought it would be fun to record throughout the day of what I was doing to prepare for the trip.
I am currently heading to Colorado for my cousin’s wedding. I had woken up very early because I procrastinated and waited to pack till the day of my flight. Then realized I needed stuff from the stores and had to run a few errands and eventually got my packing finished up about 30 minutes before I had to leave for the airport. I meant to finish up my video of me landing in Colorado but it was 11 pm in Colorado which is 2 am in the east coast so my mind was MIA.

Before reading what Roger Ebert wrote about reading movies, I wanted to write down some of my own thoughts. When Roger Ebert says “reading movies” does he mean analyzing the movies and dissecting into parts of a movie?
Something I have noticed, especially in horror movies, is that when it is a “scary” scene the music changes and focuses on a certain object or be in a certain position to drag the attention of the audience. Roger Elbert stated that he has noticed that movement to the right is used more often than movement to the left. Or in Ebert’s words “right is more positive, left more negative” and “the future seems to live on the right, the past on the left”. I wonder if this is because of how we read, literally. We always read to the right.
I chose to read the article called. “15 Essential Camera Shots, Angles and Movements” and watched “The Shining – Zooms”. Both of these focused on the idea of zoom. “Zoom shot movies into or out of the frame by using a zoom lens rather than moving the camera”. Many times zooming in or out of the frame is used as a way of dramatizing the scene of the movie. So for example in The Shining, they use zooming in on the characters to create suspense and dramatize the scene of the horror movie. It allows the audience to know that something, good or bad, is about to happen and builds up that suspension.
I thought, actually correction I knew, this assignment would be easy. I have three dogs that are all crazy in their own ways. This Tiktok includes my 4 year old bulldog named Riptide, and he is probably the craziest of my three dogs.
I took this video of Riptide while I was washing the house and saw Riptide jumping back and forth after the water. For being a dog that hates water he seems to love chasing after it even if it results in him being soaked.

Well we are over halfway through this course. I can definitely say that I am learning many new things that I can continue to apply after this course. I know people have said that this week’s objective, audio, was the most difficult. I honestly thought this was my easiest and least stressful week yet. And I am not going to complain about that at all.
To start of this week we had to listen to Ira Glass and Jad Abumrad. I actually liked listening to these three clips because I felt I had a better understanding of how one should listen to audio clips to get the full mean.
We then had to listen to TED Radio Hour and ScottLo. The TED Radio Hour was interesting because you did not get every part of every story but yet you could understand how to take each bit and put pieces together. The ScottLo Was helpful. He was a very laid back person and as you go through the messages you learn through him and you can hear how he has improved himself.
Now this next section we had to listen to…LOVED. I felt as if I, myself, was in the story being told. And THAT is how a story should be told when using audio. Moon Graffiti was this part. I really encourage you all to listen to it. It seems like it would be a long audio but I promise the whole time you are engaged and actively listening and by the time it ends you will wish for more. The link is here for anyone who would like to take a listen: Moon Graffiti
After listening to a great example of audio storytelling I thought I was prepared to start my own. It was rough at first to figure out to create these three assignments but I managed by using Audacity. The first one was my Album Mashup with Jack Harlow. This one probably gave me the most trouble but I got through it. Next was Spooky Sounds. I really enjoyed this one and through it was funny when my dad came up and asked what on earth I am listening to, as I was looking through music for scary sounds. Lastly and my favorite, It’s Story Time. Spooky story time of course! I loved making this. And I usually hate speaking in person or even to a computer when I know others will be listening but I am happy with this outcome and proud of what I created.
The last two things I did was Week 3: Responses and Comments, which I thought it was nice to look through other people’s works and see what they did different than me.
Here is a link to my Vimeo creation of this spooky story time. I used Audacity to create and SoundCloud to upload.
I had so much fun creating this story time. First of all, in case you did not know already…I love horror and halloween and scary stuff. So when I had the opportunity to create a story I thought why not make it something creepy and leave the people on their toes at the end. And that is exactly what I choose to do.
Listen in to go through an adventure in the middle of the dark forest as you hear creepy noises coming from every direction. Hope you find a house as a safe place for the night.
